I prefer jeans that fit better like trousers. It always feels pulled together, something I can wear over and over again. An oversized men’s shirt will always be in my wardrobe, and Martine Rose is my favorite. For me, the classic track pants will never go out of style. Plus, it’s a lot more shiny than regular sweat. I rarely wear heels, but I can always be persuaded to go back to my Manolos when the dress code calls for it. These classic kitten buckles also go well with an evening pair of pants, a slip-on or a prom dress. And it’s also super comfortable. My capsule wardrobe includes a range of classics, starting with a midi knit dress from my favorite brand, Proenza Schouler. (I own at least five knit dresses from the brand.) My colleagues like to call me handbag lady because I always show up to the office with a new work bag. My latest obsession? The Row’s Margaux inside-out tote bag is just big enough to hold everything I need for the office (and then a few things). My wardrobe is never full with a vintage Cartier Tank Solo watch around my wrist and a pair of chunky gold earrings. (My favorite set is by Missoma.) And lastly, I want to make sure I feel comfortable walking around the streets of NYC, so I always complete my look with a pair of Chelsea boots with soles. is equal to.
I’m almost as classic as it gets. As trends come and go, I probably won’t change my uniform. I love pure white shirts; this one by Cara Cara is currently my favorite because it has a belt. And when baggy, loose, oversized boxers steal our hearts, I’ll opt out and stick with my beloved slim-fit pants. I have a variety from The Row and Rag & Bone. I like a pair of pants that come right above the ankle; in winter, they look great with ankle boots, and when I’m not wearing warm clothes, it’s all about ballet boots! This leads me to my plain black apartments. These from Repetto are just as good, but I’ll also be wearing Chanel’s classic CC flats. They’re a pretty big investment for sure, but I once had a pair that lasted almost eight years (with annual trips to the shoemaker). And for handbags, I’m a girl who loves box bags with top handles — this Lizard Hunting Season bag is super chic and the one I’ve been carrying this winter. In the end, my look wouldn’t be complete without a red lip – Gucci’s Odalie 500 to be exact. I feel naked without it!
To get you started, we reached out to nine Vogue editors and asked them to define their own versions of capsule wardrobes—the everyday essentials they rely on to produce Elegantly present on every occasion. From tried-and-tested classics like tight turtlenecks or menswear-inspired loafers to more trendy pieces (it’s fashion we’re obsessed with, after all) ), each Vogue editor’s capsule wardrobe is created with longevity in mind—meaning items meant for years, not just seasons. Below, take a look at nine Vogue editors’ wardrobes to inspire your own shopping lists this New Year and beyond. I’m a big fan of these Courrèges turtlenecks. The dense knit never loses shape or sags, and the collar never slides down—a winter essential. I live in Bassike’s pants. Tiny cuts that fit my body. When I wear prints, which is not often the case, they are usually Dries Van Noten. My friend and former Style.com colleague, Marina Larroude, make amazing boots. I’ve put a lot of miles into these. My uniform consists mainly of pants and a sweater with Dries Van Noten taking up a lot of space in my closet. I keep adding Saint Laurent boots and my favorite loafers from The Row. My travel pants for traveling or just going out for the weekend are Paskho—they’re super comfortable yet functional—usually paired with an Organic Basics tank top.
