This look is a one-of-a-kind collaboration between two of my favorite emerging artists, Maxx Morando and Shane Kastl. Shane used existing pieces I’ve collected over time and customized Maxx’s cartoon characters [within] his construction. Their collaboration is the perfect example of sustainability becoming the next fashion phase, and it proves that anything can be reinvented, which resonates with me deeply. My custom Armani Prive look was inspired by their spring 2021 collection. The beaded top was exquisitely executed! I wanted to serve “Princess of Punk” but bring the electricity of glam rock [by] using makeup to rebel against the expected. My concept for the hair was “Marilyn Mon-Mohawk” to honor Hollywood glamour and one of the most iconic pop culture pioneers.
Then lockdown happened, and I started dressing like I was plucked out of a flamboyant ’00s music video. Blumarine this. Roberto Cavalli that. I finally had time to delve into magazine archives and dress like my Fran Fine–meets–Ukrainian-noughties-rich-bitch fantasy. Outside of the confines of work and events, I was able to explore and experiment. My style had completely changed by the time Fashion Week returned in full force just a few weeks ago. No more mourning garb. Instead, I had a newfound confidence and some great clothes to match. For the first time, I wanted to burst out of my cocoon of gray and black shrouds and have the world see my stunning array of Y2K-era grails.
Today I’m pulling out all the stops in head-to-toe Blumarine. I’m wearing a tiny, little knit cardigan with a fur trim around the collar and a pair of baggy, chino-type pants that are too long, but it’s OK because they have a bungee cord that scrunches at the ankle. It’s all Blumarine, courtesy of designer Nicola Brognano. I add a few of my own personal effects: another white tank top, a pair of black Havaianas, and the Louis Vuitton bag. I CitiBike to the Batsheva show uptown looking like a party on two wheels. With the fur trim and bare midriff, I resemble the happier version of The Sopranos’ Adriana La Cerva. Batsheva babes like actresses Heidi Gardner and Lauren Servideo like the cardigan. Score! After Batsheva, I kill some time in Little Italy like a true Blumarine hottie and then I take the L train to Eckhaus Latta. The look is once again a red-hot hit. I’m snapped by Oh and the lovely street style photographer Liisa Jokinen of @NYCLooks, who also runs the vintage search engine Gem. I feel like I should do a street style profile on her.Day 5
