Everybody has an addiction mine just happens to be The Wiggles longsleeved
I teach that recoil is like an Everybody has an addiction mine just happens to be The Wiggles shirt speed bump in the parking lot. You just deal with it. The bullet has left the barrel so anything you do to reduce recoil will mean an incorrect shot. Once the bullet is gone, all your relief will put it in the wrong direction. After that, the regression occurred. So you should have been starting on .22 LR. It has, in a rifle, the least recoil. You learn visual alignment and activation control. BANG and recoil are minimal distractions. But I also teach where to place stocks, and how it feels to be right. It will be like an extension of your body, nestled in your shoulder hips. The whole buttocks must rest against your shoulders and pull in tightly.

If I wiggle the rifle, your shoulder will move with it. If it is loose, then your shoulders have won the Everybody has an addiction mine just happens to be The Wiggles shirt move and the recoil will strike you as if you were punched. If held properly, you will feel like you are being pushed. How much you are pushed depends on the bullet you shoot and the weight of the rifle (because it will absorb a lot of recoils) and if there is a muzzle brake. I recently shot a .50 BMG rifle that is HEAVY and has a muzzle brake. Feel less jerky than 0.03. As far as to complete recoil, if you put it in the right position, the AR 0.222 or 5.56mm ring is quite light. If not correctly positioned it can hit you well. A friend in my range recently shot a .410 shotgun.
